This is a classic vinyl LP and 80s music lovers will enjoy this fab music. This album was also re released to coincide with the album's 40th Anniversary in 2015.
‘Love to Love You Baby’ was the first studio album by singer, songwriter and disco trailblazer Donna Summer to be released in the United States. Love to Love You Baby as a single was Summer's first single and first hit in America, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in early 1976. The album made the Top 20 in both the US and the UK.
It was in the summer of 1974, that Summer approached disco beat maker Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte with an idea for a song. She had come up with the lyric "love to love you, baby" as the possible title for the song. Moroder in particular was interested in developing the new disco sound that was becoming increasingly popular, and used Summer's idea to develop the song into an overtly sexual disco track. The original three minute single was released several times before it had any success - and later edited versions of the re-recorded much longer track were the versions which became a major international hit. Love to Love You Baby went on to make it into a dance track played at every club its worth and its final cut of almost 17 minutes is the best of them all. You can set this song on repeat and still not get fed up of its trance effect, not forgetting Donna's moaning and groaning, its electronic interplay in between and the catchy hook.
This undoubtedly is the standout track on this album and the only song on Side One. Now even after almost 46 years after its original release, put this track on your turntable and voila, you are in the mood for dancing.
The other songs all on Side Two include, Full of Emptiness which is simply not long enough, although you get a reprise version at the close of the album. The other tracks are Donna's love torn voice in Need-A Man Blues another good song that has a nice beat to it. Whispering Waves comes as a splash of good energy with her voice as sweet as always. Pandora's Box has a country twinge to it and is a nice change.
Donna Summer was a great singer, shame she passed away so young at 64.
This album is highly recommended to anyone who loves her music. Seventies disco classic, what more can I say.
