Possibly Lionel Richie’s best album, with the best top songs, all this from his 80s album ‘Can’t Slow Down’. There’s magnificent instruments execution, fantastic vocals, incredible sound production and sound quality.
Originally released in 1983, the album was the biggest success of the ex-Commodore’s solo career, with each of its five singles All Night Long, Penny Lover, Stuck on You, Running with the Night, and Hello, reaching the Top Ten.
Lionel Richie's second solo album had one thing in common, most of the songs on the album were hits, which is amazingly high, with five of eight, that's astonishing.
‘Can't Slow Down’ is anything but a best of collection, which many thought it was, as it had every genre in it, from funky up-tempo dance songs and groovy dance tracks and smooth, tender ballads.
The album reached #1 on the Billboard album chart. It also spent 59 consecutive weeks inside the Top 10 (including the entire year of 1984) and a total of 160 weeks (over three years) on the Billboard 200. After being the third best-selling album of 1984, it went on to win a Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1985, beating out such heavyweight album contenders as ‘Born in the U.S.A’ by Bruce Springsteen and ‘Purple Rain’ by Prince. By 1986 the album had sold 15 million copies, eventually selling over 20 million.
The title of this album isn't just the name of one of the songs on the album, the album's title also serves as an apt description of the pace that Richie was on during the 1981 to 1986 period. In that six-year period Richie put out three albums that were huge hits and which had him promoting those albums all over the world. If you’re into old classics, this is a must have to add to your collection. The vinyl sound makes it all the better in sound quality.
