From Here to Eternity - Giorgio Moroder

If you really want to find out where trance and electronics started, this LP will give you the right explanation. From Here to Eternity is a 1977 album (his 7th) composed, produced and performed by Italian DJ Giorgio Moroder. This is his most popular record to date compared to the other 12 albums he has recorded. His sound is a close call to Kraftwerk who was playing similar music around the same time in Germany.

The nasal voice Moroder began his music career in the mid 60s and produced the first disco hit entirely produced with a synthesizer for Donna Summer’s I feel Love, moving over to Love to Love you Baby, Hot Stuff. He has also created a score of songs for musicians like David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, Irene Cara, Janet Jackson and many others.

He single handedly introduced the world to disco/dance into the electronic age with this ground breaking masterpiece album. As the liner notes state: "Only electronic instruments were used in this recording". His novel way of making the guitar talk was fabulous.

The legendary Moroder gets you hypnotized in this 30 minute set with songs like From Here to Eternity that blends into Faster Than The Speed Of Love, followed by Lost Angeles, Utopia - Me Giorgio as the tracks segue seamlessly into each other. You then have From Here to Eternity (Reprise). This makes up the first side of the album comprised of a single 15-minute long dance mix spread across five tracks. Side B opens with the very neat First Hand Experience In Second Hand Love and more fun loving material with the comical I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone prime examples of early trance music, closing with Too Hot To Handle. Most of the instruments used here are strictly achieved by synthesizers, bongo drums, a drum machine and disembodied female voices played through a vocoder.

The songs are sensual and provocative and at the same time a bit eerie what with the female singers chipping in from time to time. The cheesy lyrics certainly contribute to the bizarre atmosphere of the music.

Played even today Moroder’s music is a dance floor burner and highly addictive. It is a groundbreaking album from "The Godfather" of electronic disco. A "must have" in your collection if you still remember the 70's. Crank the volume up to max and enjoy a unique experience.
