One of the Greatest Christmas albums ever. Christmas songs and the voice of Jim Reeves make for one great musical Christmas. I grew up listening to this LP on vinyl way back in the late 70s and I still treasure this LP everytime Christmas comes. Among the many others that I have from Kenny Rogers, Roger Whitakaer, Ray Coniff and a few others, Jim Reeves is one Christmas LP you would want to have that contains traditional christmas music. The 12 songs on this album are Christmas classics done by one of country music's greatest and most complex artists of all time all in great sounding stereo and is one of the highlights of the Nashville Sound of the 1960's.
Jim Reeves rendition of Jingle Bells, Silent Night and Blue Christmas are excellent and in my opinion his rendition of White Christmas is the best I have ever heard. In addition to the traditional classics, there's other greats from this dTexan singer like the very amusing Dear Senor Santa Claus, to the funky The Merry Christmas Polka done in a way you have probably never heard beforeand a very meaningful An Old Christmas card. His take on the letters C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S is heartwarming, Mary's Boy Child truly solemn bringing out the true meaning of Christmas. O Come All Ye Faithful, O Little Town of Bethlehem and Silver Bells are other highlights on the LP.
Gentleman Jim as he came to be known, has a smooth voice that naturally makes you want to hum along with all of his songs. You'll see why when you play this album.
If you want the absolute best in Christmas Music, you will find it on this album. A great album for young kids and old as it has something for everyone. It was a big part of my life growing up and it'll be a big part of my family going forward. Christmas will not be the same without this music and Jim Reeves.
The album was originally released in 1963 and was a million seller. It was Reeves' first and only Christmas-themed release when unfortunately a few months later the world lost Jim Reeves in a plane crash in 1964.
