One of the very few picture discs in my collection, this one which I bought on my holiday when in London in 2005. Though there were many other artists LPs around, Mariah Carey’s saucy look on the cover disc seduced me into picking her up for a spin…….well literally. No matter that the disc had just two tracks, it was more the picture on the disc that attracted me to this particular LP.
We Belong Together is a sexy ballad by the bootylicious Mariah who returns to form with a classic groovy ballad, striking a perfect balance between being soulful and funky at the same time. You have the usual album version followed by a Remix version featuring Jadakiss and Styles P. The remix clocking over seven minutes, puts you in a different set of groove making you want to party. Increase the pitch and you get a bassy sound and a full blown beat all around that takes the ballad to new heights with some very good remixes.
Flip over to Side 2 and you have It’s like That the usual album version in a remixed form. I love the pianos and snaps in this and the catchy fast paced melody. Another party smasher with a hip hop groove all the way.
Last on this side and we go back to We Belong Together - The Reconstruction Radio Mix that would pull you on the dancefloor, surely not leaving you disappointed with its stomping beats. A very good Mariah remix in a while after the barrage of remixes done by David Morales. The radio edit is essentially a shorter version for airplay. Both tracks on this album are from Mariah’s album ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’.
